Nou i hooked up the disk on my windowsmachine to look whats on it
Now i see a map Ripserver in the explorer, but my laptop cannot see it
The map is not acessable
And when i look at the properties, the map is empty

Is VFAT the same as FAT32? I have never seen an external drive formatted with VFAT, but only formatted with FAT32. I just purchased a new Western Digital External HD of 1 Terabyte size, and it comes formatted as FAT32, even though Windows XP is unable to format a partition larger than 32GB. Will this work OK with the Backup and RAID functions?

Thanks,

Any answers? I know it was maybe a simpleton's question but I can't find the answer. Microsoft evidently had a VFAT file system for a while that was a modified FAT16, but it was replaced by FAT32 which apparently is not the same as the Microsoft VFAT. And there seems to be a Linux file system called VFAT, but I am not familiar at all with Linux and have no idea whether it is compatible with FAT32. Before I trust my data to a FAT32 formatted hard drive, it would be nice to know whether it is safe.

Thanks,

Re: rescuing files by Backup

I have a new hub/router as the ethernet port failed on the last one. I can't see the Ripserver on the network via my new hub (BT Homehub 2.0). I've tried plugging in a monitor to Ripserver and it seems to show a FAILURE message in relation to the IP address; it says to check cable; the cable in fine.
I'd like to solve that problem, but in the meantime my worry is that my ripped files aren't backed up (stupid, i know, but I hadn't quite got round to getting a USB back-up hard disk. If I get one now, I can't back-up to it, because I can't get the Ripserver tools via the network (as its not communicating with the hub/router). Is there a way I can instuct it to back up to a USB drive using the plugged in screen and keyboard?

Any help on any of these issues would be welcome, as I currently have a useless Ripserver.

It would be possible to do back up from the CentOS command line if you know Linux.

Note your previous message was about (non) user friendliness though.

At the moment my advice to you would be to find the upgrade disk if you still have it and rerun it. The music will survive...

If you want to be secure about it, my advice would be to physically take the 1TB out of the RS and get it copied to something else. The RipNAS is a good bet.

If you're UK-based, PM me and I'll try to help out if I can.

How can you check that the data has been copied across (other than removing the USB hard drive and plugging it into a PC)? i.e. Through the Ripserver Web Console.
